I go by 'shiimapan' online, some call me 'Fallout Mom (or just Mom) in certain fandom circles, but you can call me 'shii' for short! I'm a cosplay hobbyist, merch collector, and K-Pop fanatic currently residing in SoCal (Southern California, USA) with my partner Siyegen, and our three black cats, Kainé, Emil, and Yoru. We're also currently taking care of a stray tabby cat, named Maynard (James Kat), hoping that someday he'll maybe wanna an indoor cat!
This site is my little corner of the internet, and home to my cosplay portfolio where you can view my current cosplay roster or take a peek at my cosplay archive, browse my merch collection, or check out my blog where I keep my Fallout Merch Roundup archive and whatever else I feel like blogging.
If you enjoy what I do please consider supporting me by engaging my posts and videos on my other social media platforms, a simple like/comment/share goes a looong way! FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How old are you?
I'm a witch (I'm in my 40s)
How tall are you?
4'10" I'm not sure why this surprises so many people but it does lol
What's your job? What do you do?
I'm the HBIC at Vault 16 in SoCal (Southern California)
What does 'shiimapan' mean?
My online username comes from 'Shii Arisugawa' an original character by Japanese artist Shunya Yamashita, said character wears shimapan the ubiquitous striped panties seen in anime and manga. I've always really liked stripes and striped clothing in general, so I took shimapan and added the extra 'i' to kinda set my username apart.
What's with the 'Fallout Mom' nickname?
I tend to be the dedicated mom friend of whatever friend groups I'm in, and it originally started with a close friend, then sorta caught on within our fandom circle. I think his exact words were 'because you're always organizing the gatherings and looking out for everyone' so there ya go! I dunno why some think it's super serious and like I'm some kind of know-it-all LOL it's just a fun and silly inside joke!
Do you have (insert social media here)?
Yes! All of my active social paltforms are part of the main navigation at the top of the page, there's also an e-mail button if you need to get in touch via e-mail for collabs or other inquiries!
Can I send you something?
Yes! E-mail me for my mailing address! You don't have to send me anything fancy, I'd be more than happy to receive letters and postcards from around the world!
How long have you been cosplaying?
I've been cosplaying since 2007, and Anime Expo that year was my first con experience.
Do you make your own cosplays?
Yes, unless otherwise stated! I can rarely get by with purchasing pre-made cosplays as I need a custom fit, and I'm slowly working on getting more in-depth construction notes with photos added to all of my individual cosplay pages!
Do you do commissions or sell cosplay?
I'm not open to commissions and I don't sell any of my old cosplays.
When will you post new cosplay content?
Sure, when you wanna sponsor a costume for me! I only do this as a hobby, so as long as I'm the one putting my time, money, and effort into it, it'll get done when I say it gets done.
Can you share your jumpsuit pattern?
NOPE. I've spent the past few years perfecting my pattern and there was a lot of work put into it that I'm still tweaking to make it better. Plus they're tailored to my measurements anyways, and I have no idea how to go about pattern grading and whatnot even if I wanted to make it available for purchase.
How can I get started with cosplay?
This is such a loaded question LMAO but honestly doing Google searches is going to be your best bet, there are SO many great tutorials and cosplay books these days, not to mention a better, and wider selection of materials to work with! Getting into the hobby is much easier than when I first started, you just have to take the plunge and go for it, and if you don't feel comfortable making your own cosplays? eBay, AliExpress, and Taobao have you covered for pre-made costumes, just make sure to do your research and check reviews!
Can you do a tutorial for 'xyz' thing?
Maybe! But I won't make any promises, there's so much I want to do but making tutorials is sooo consuming. It's worse with YouTube videos, because that's even more time consuming with all the video editing involved lol
Do you have a store/shop where you sell your crafts?
Nope! I did for a time and despite a lot of interest in me opening up shop, it ultimately ended up being a waste of time. Anything and everything I make now is purely for personal use only.
Do you sell cosplay prints?
Nope. I'm really not interested, and there isn't enough of a demand.
Do you have a Patreon?
Nope. I'm not interested for a variety of reasons.
Do you work for (insert company name here)?
I'm an affiliate for a few sites, but no, I don't work for anyone if anything I'd like to think they work for me. *wink*
Where did you get (insert merch item here)?
If it's something that's been posted to any of my social media, the artist will be tagged in the photos if they're on that social media platform, and any additional information will be in the description.
Did you get (insert merch item here) for free?
I always disclose this information, yet people still insist that I get sent all this merch for absolutely free LOL I've bought almost everything in my collection, whatever's been sent to me for free is a teeny tiny percentage of that.
Where do you buy your display cases and clear acrylic organizers, risers, shelves, etc.?
My main display cases are Detolf cabinets from IKEA (now discontinued, rip) and a majority of my acrylic organizers, risers, and shelves are from Amazon, The Container Store, and Daiso!
How do you afford all of this?
I'm a collector, also it really isn't any of your business or concern so don't worry about it LOL
How come you won't respond to my DM?
I check it when I can, but get overwhelmed with notifications as it is, and honestly I don't have the mental/emotional/physical bandwith to respond to everyone. If you have a specific question I'm more likely to respond, but a majority of what I get in my inbox are really vague and/or could easily be answered by checking photo tags or the post description.
